A Well Trained Mind: Social Emotional Awareness for Educators

What does every student need in order to be well-adjusted and happy? A well-adjusted, mindful teacher that fosters a climate in which students can learn, dream, create, and be themselves. Teachers can profoundly shape a student’s sense of self and belief in their ability to improve intelligence with perseverance. Teachers should be aware of the scientific findings that being mindful can alter the brain’s ability to focus, pay attention, and be reflective. Considering the impact of stress in society and the importance of healthy emotion regulation skills, helping teachers and students develop methods for managing stress imperative. A healthy classroom climate begins with a teacher that has adopted healthy habits that promote social emotional awareness. This interactive session will provide research based stress reduction and mindfulness strategies and resources for educators and students to manage “the overwhelm”.
