Today – March 4th the president sent to Congress his budget proposal for FY 2015. He made the announcement at a DC area elementary school. In his budget he proposes to expand funding for education by focusing on several themes that were introduced by Secretary Duncan at a budget briefing. The USED material said the themes were:
1. Increasing equity and opportunity for all students
A new proposed fund, called Race to the Top-Equity and Opportunity, would complement existing efforts by further supporting strong state and local efforts to improve equity. It would create incentives for states and school districts to drive comprehensive change in how states and districts identify and close opportunity and achievement gaps.
2. Strengthening support for teachers and school leaders
