USED to states - apply for one year extension for assessments

June 18th - Secretary Duncan released a letter to the chief state school officers allowing them to apply for a one year waiver to the requirement embedded in the waiver requirements from No Child Left Behind that the states use the assessments of the new college- and career ready standards to evaluate teachers and principals.  One of the reasons cited in the letter was this would give teachers and principals additional time to understand the requirements of the new standards and to develop the curriculum to accompany these changed goals.
